Resolved Question: How should I...
My parked car was totalled. The other insurance company declined to fix it stating that the repair cost exceeded the value of the car. The car was in excellent condition and had very low miles. I faxed a copy of the printout from kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) showing the retail value of the car. The insurance company told me that they use the "private party sale" value of the car (which as you might guess is lower than the retail value of the car. What are my options? What do you suggest that I do? I am not using my own insurance co. because I have no collision coverage (which is legal in California-- the state only requires liability coverage). There is no dispute that the other driver was at fault. Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks.
Resolved Question: When a car is...
I'm in California, I was told they use a sytstem of finding 8-10 cars with your specs (year, mileage, extras, etc..) and then average it out for the value of the car....I know the condition of the vehicle prior to the accident could come into question however this process seems to tilt toward in the insurance companies favor......thoughts?Looking up my car on nadaguides.com it was within 200$ of KellyBB and thanks for the duh answer, really intelligent! and I get that insurance is to protect us, I got hit from someone running a red w/a cop behind him and got completely totaled so i just want fair value for my car, which was an 07 with 8k miles on it.....and in my opinion that value shouldn't differ just because its an ins co.....however Im not naive enough to think that ins co's hose people all the time.....I got a sob story from Mercury since the guy only has 10k of coverage for property damage...I suppose wanting a fair outcome is a stretch in these cases.thanks david c, yes that was helpful.....car was deemed totaled already so now I'm waiting on the settlement...i was told that they find 8-10 cars with similar characteristics and average out the price from those....

The body lay spread-eagled at the base of the magnificent south aspect of York Minister. Bright, late spring sunshine glinted off the blood that still oozed from the shattered remains of a human life taken by who knew what evil. Detective Chief Inspector Franklin eyed the rag doll scene with a jaundiced eye. Maybe it was time to retire he thought. Broken bodies had played too much of a part in his life; yes he had lost the ability to feel.‘Looks like suicide sir’. Detective Sergeant Kelly Walters ventured.‘Really sergeant and how did you come that conclusion, crystal ball?’Franklin glanced at his new colleague. Petite, flame red hair, pretty in a rather severe way, destined for big things he conjectured but still horribly wet behind the ears.‘Sergeant, while I admit that yonder corpse has hit the pavement at some 120 mph, we don’t know if he jumped of his own volition. Therefore we will be treating the death as suspicious’.Walters coloured slightly. Franklin had the uncanny knack of making her feel like a schoolgirl. Dr Peters, the on duty medic, ducked under the blue and white police tape and approached Franklin.‘Well?’ Franklin asked.Peters didn’t take offence at Franklin’s tone, he had become used to the detectives lack of manners.‘Its bloody odd, his heart should have stopped upon impact. Should have been instant, but I think his heart kept pumping for several seconds, hence so much blood. The time of death I'd put at about 4 am. We’ll know more after the autopsy but, despite what it looks like I don’t think he jumped. An impact of that severity would have fractured pretty well of all of the major bones of his body. I can’t find any major trauma to the skeleton apart of course the head which is a mess. As I say we’ll know more after the autopsy.Franklin took a slim silver cigarette case from his pocket, selected an oval Turkish and lit it with his silver 1920’s Dunhill; a gift from his father.‘Yes Walters I know it’s a nasty habit and I know you do not approve, but it helps me think. Who found the body?’‘Homeless man, she consulted her notebook, a John Wright. He was dosing down in the park. Says something woke him up so he went for a walk. He reckons it was about 4.30am which tallies with the log of his 999 call.’‘Very public spirited for a vagrant wouldn’t you say. I take it he’s helping us with our enquiries down at the nick, don’t want him wandering off do we!’‘No sir I expect he’s tucking into his second breakfast by now.’ Walters’s stomach growled reminding her that her only breakfast had been a hasty cup of coffee.‘Do we have an ID on the unfortunate cleric?’ Franklin snapped. The black cassock gave away his calling.‘Graham Cartwright Sir his wallet was in his hand. Just as well I wouldn’t want to have to identify that.’ She added and shuddered slightly.

What is the best asking price for selling a 1997 saturn ls series with roughly 162,038 miles on it? I need at least 1500.00 for it which seems reasonable according to kelly blue book. However i don't know how to go about selling it... should i put it on a classifieds, or sell it to a used car dealership? what one would i get what it is worth and or close to my asking price or more? Help!!

Resolved Question: Car totaled in...
I was hit by a reckless driver. The accident was not my fault. The other driver and I have the same insurance company (USAA). Now the problem is we are military and we are PCS-ing next month. We had basically had our car sold to a guy on my husbands boat we were just waiting for them to return from deployment to do all the paperwork. And we had it worked out to were we wouldn't turn the car over until the day before we left island. Now I obviously can't sell it and need a rental car. The insurance company isn't offering what I feel like is enough to replace my car. I used Kelly Blue Book to determine the actual cash value of my car it said 13,900. I owe 11,700. They offered 11,300 claiming that is what my car is worth. What do I do??? All I want is to be made 'whole'... my car to be paid off and a rental until I leave.
Resolved Question: What should I do...
This question is a hybrid for both finance and car geeks.Keep in mind, I want the cheapest possible solution. I don't care if I'm driving a piece of crap. I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix with 155,000 miles on it. According to Kelly's blue book, the car is worth about 1,500 dollars. I guess there are two primary set of questions:When should I sell my car and get a new one? This question seems to depend on how quickly my car will decrease in value. If it won't decrease much now, I might as well keep it, and earn some interest on the money I won't tie up in purchasing a new car.The second question:How used (in years) and how nice of a car should I purchase? Is it worth it financially to purchase a BMW (or another nice type car) because the car will last longer?I have heard from many sources that purchasing a used car is a better financial decision. How old of car should I purchase to maximize its value? Thanks to everyone who replies!!!

the used car dealer in my neighborhood got this '93 mustang lx 5.0 triple black convertable in. the owner has been driving this around for a while as his toy, now its on the lot for sale. he wants $8,000 for it - i kelly blue booked this under this 'suggested retail value' and it came up as $4,800 for excelent condition. it has 134K miles and has a 5.0L v8 on it. are they overpricing this car?? it looks like its stock too..what do i do? tell the owner its overpriced?i have a 95 grand am gt clean car, put a new engine in 43K on it 120K on the body but car is real clean looking. should i just keep the grand am?
Resolved Question: Fix it or trade it...
I have a 2001 Subaru Outback with 130,000 miles on it. It needs over $2000 work including a new catalytic, timing belt, oil pump, new struts etc etc. The Kelly Blue book lists its trade in value at about $5k. Is it worth it to spend the money repairing this car- repairs could come close to $3000- or should I throw in the towel and trade it in for either a new car or a 3 yr old used car (off-lease)? I can't sell the car privately because it won't pass NJ state emissions inspection with a bad catalytic converter. The shop quoted over $950 to replace the catalytic (midas quoted $800) converter and it needs new valve cover gaskets, plugs and plug wires (approx $350). It does not need a new oil pump, it needs a new seal between the oil pump and engine, as well as the timing belt- they quoted about $500 for that, so it still adds up to $2000 work. It turns out it does not need new struts

Resolved Question: What is a fair...
My husband and I went minivan/SUV hunting today with a budget of $20,500. We told the salesman our budget was only $19,000-19,500. The one we decided on is a 2003 GMC Envoy XL Sport Utility 4wd, with lots of extras. He then sat us down, and showed us a paper he printed out on this vehicle, stating the price of the vehicle, which was $18,889 and included taxes, taxes, and $399 for sales commission (yes, it actually says that). The total was around $19,800. I checked the Kelly Blue Book value with all the options our vehicle had and they value the car at $18,985. Now, this car is in pristine condition with low mileage for the year (like 43,000 miles). What do you think a fair price would be for us to offer? Will the salesman get more than just the $399 stated on the paper? It is at a Marine Chevrolet dealership in case you are wondering. We want to get the SUV tomorrow, so any answers will be appreciated. Thanks for answering!!I am not trading in a vehicle for this one - this is going to be a second vehicle. My zip is 28546. The SUV has a 4.2 liter engine, 6 cylinder, 4 wd automatic, with a/c, pwr steer, pwr windows, pwr door locks, tilt wheel, cruise control, am/fm, dual front air bags, abs 4-wheel, roof rack, privacy glass, SLT (whatever that is), rear air, multi disc cd plyr, premium sound, front side air bags, leather interior, dual pwr seats, sun/moon roof, running boards, premium wheels, and OnStar. I am already preapproved by my bank, so I will be going in tomorrow with a check for alot more than the price of this vehicle that was given to me (but HE won't know that, hahaha).
Resolved Question: used car help???
i currently am driving a 98 mustang 3.8 manual, it has 133,000 miles on it. and i did the plugs/wires/ pcv valve all that stuff, trans and clutch are going to be needed to be replaced or rebuilt. im 17 years old and not alot of cash. so the mustang insurance sucks ( the car was givin to my by a uncle in trade for work) but i know the car isnt going to last all that much longer, so should i just start throwing what money i do have/ get at it? or do the repairs and sell it? im not sure what i need to do Kelly Blue Book value is just over 3,000. what should i do? any advice?
Resolved Question: Spain version of...
I am moving to spain and planned on selling my vehicle her in the states before i leave but my sister n law who lives in spain said to bring them over and sell them in spain. I supposedly could make alot more over there than here. I told her it would cost me about 2500 dollars to ship one vehicle but she claims i could easily make that up. So my question is this. Here in the US we have what is known as "The Kelly Blue Book" which most everybody uses (including dealers) to evaluate used car price for trade in or for private sale. Does spain have a website that i could calculate approximately how much i could sell my cars for in spain? The money from the sell here in the states would help out in the move but would not determine if we were moving.

Resolved Question: Kelly Blue Book...
I am purchasing a used 1995 Pontiac Firebird, 91,777 mileage. It is clean inside and out. I am not that sure about the performance under the hood so I will be taking my mechanic with me to check things out. I am buying this car from a very, very small used car dealership. the dealer asking price is $4995.00 without not even a limited warranty being mentioned at all. I do rate this car in good condition and NOT excellent.this is kelly blue book price....Excellent $4,130.00 Good $3,730.00. Fair $3,250Is this a deal or not? I am not sure to confront the dealer with this or just leave it be and buy the car anyway even though the dealer want more than the Kelly blue book value? I do not know too much about buying used cars simply because I have always bought new cars and this car will just be a secondary car we need.

Resolved Question: Best Way to Sell a...
I purchased a black 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sahara in Dec. 2003. After an accident (with the hard top on) rendered it totaled a year later, I still have the soft top. It was only used for the Spring to Fall months of 2004 and has been in protective storage since then. Other than selling it on eBay or Craig's list, is there another means of selling it? Also, how would I find out the fair market value of such an item? I haven't had luck on Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book.
Resolved Question: I'm a 1st time...
I'm a independent female. I saved up enough money to buy a used car. It's a car in someone driveway. I looked up the car specs on kelly blue book. There selling price is average. I looked over the car and everything seem fine. I want to buy the car.Tomorrow (in 4 hours) i'm going to look at the car again and test drive it.I want to buy it. What steps should I take? How do I do the insurance and title? This car will be on a new policy cause I don't have a car. I don't have anybody to ask these questions.Thanks.
Resolved Question: How would it work...
My friend was recently in a wreck and that got me to thinking. I still owe almost 5,000 on my car loan, but my kelly blue book value is only about 6,000 now. If I was in a wreck that wasn't my fault and my car wasn't fixable, and the insurance company payed the 6,000 my car is worth, would I have to use that to pay off my loan, or would the loan transfer to a new car?
Resolved Question: what are the steps...
Our car pymt is just too high for us right now so we'd like to sell it. We still owe $10,680 on it but kelly blue book value is $8,245 and that's if it were in excellent condition. It's about excellent/good condition...some wear on it. Our loan is thru our bank, if you need that information as well. If anymore info is needed to help me, say so. Otherwise, I would like to know what steps i need to take in order to sell it and how much i should sell it for? Thanks!

Open Question: How do you negotiate...
I am planning on purchasing a used vehicle. The dealer is selling it for $9,800. That price is $1000 over Kelly Blue Book and NADA value of the car. I am willing to pay $8500 in cash for the vehicle (including taxes, title, everything). This is small dealership and the vehicle has been on the lot for over 3 weeks. There are also 2 other local dealerships with the same vehicle for sale. Would a good negotiating tacit be to get a bank check for $8500, and tell the dealership that “I would rather avoid the going back and forth between negotiating because I know my maximum price is $8500 and I will give you bank check for that right now? If you do not want to take it, I will go to one of the other dealerships.”Or is there a better way to go about it with still getting the price that I want for the car?

Resolved Question: Is there any way...
I use kbb.com very often to look up car prices. However, I would like to be able to do that even when I am not connected to the Internet. Besides getting a physical book (which is much harder to use), how could I have access to Kelly Blue Book's resources when Internet is not available? Is there some kind of downloadable version? kbb.com seems to offer nothing of the kind. So, just to make myself clear, I don't want an actual book. And if you've got any ideas, a link would be appreciated.

Ok my car was declared totaled and Im still making payments on it. My car was a 2005 zx4 se ford focus. The adjuster offered me $6,551. I didnt accept the claim cuz i thought it was to low. He used edmuds, but the thing is he conditioned my car average and was using the private party value. I bought my car on aug. 12th of 2007. so to this day it will be 6months. my accident happened jan 17, 2008. so i only really had my car for 5 m. i did my research and used NADA, Kelly blue book, edmunds and average out10K and some change. He said it wasnt correct cuz i conditioned my car clean, excellent, and outstanding. and i used the dealership value. I asked that how did he conditioned my car average. and he said based on miles and year. so i reported him to Texas department of Insurance. How do they condition my car and how do i find out if thats the right way and isnt the dealer value and not the private party value. i need help, what can T.D.I. do.

I'm trying to decide between these two cars. It will be the only car, so it will be driven every day. I like both equally and have test driven both. The car will be for family use- no kids yet, but within a year or two- and light hauling- saddles, home improvement, etc... I've investigated both at Consumer reports, Kelly Blue book, and a few other sites and they all same the same thing, almost identical. It looks like it might just come down to personal preference and/or who gives the best deal. Both vehicles are equipped equally and with the same options. I'm going with manual shift and not interested in AWD. I live in western NY if that makes a difference. Anyone have either of these vehicles or doing the same search? Looking for advice. It is 1998, not 1988thanks wynnie
Resolved Question: Do credit unions...
I am in the process of purchasing a car and decided to go to my credit union for the loan b/c i hear that they have the best rates. I had run my credit about a month before and it came back with a mid of a 777. (lucky huh). Any ways after the application process with the credit union (i had to fax my tax info to them three times) they came back and said some new collection had been reported and my mid was 625, they said i was approved at 10.75%, and they will pay 80% of the highest value Kelly Blue Book gives to the used car. That interest seems kinda high to me and it seems i can do better. What do you all think??P.S. I was surpised at having any collection, and am still pestering them because they haven't even been able to tell me where its from.Thanks. I did pull my credit and got an address and for company name it only says medical. But i yahooed the address and got a phone number and they said they will mail the information. Also Gibbs, yes it is a used car, i just bought my wife a new accord and got a great rate of 6.45. Also this will most likely be a private party sale, or if it is a dealer it will be out of state. AutoSellingMaster, Should i let the out-of-state dealer have a crack at it??Gibbs you are correct in reference to rate. Having a FICO of 777 would only give me an interest rate of about 9% with the Credit Union on a used car loan. That is a difference of about $20/mo on my payment and $1000 over the life of the loan, which in my opinion is not a big difference. Thank you for your input.

Voting Question: What can I do to...
I stupidly bought a new car 2 years ago (when I already had a new one that my parents just paid off) and now I'm stuck with $271/month payments. I know that's still pretty cheap, but with gas prices and me having to commute 50 miles everyday to work, I don't want to keep trashing my car with miles. I still owe about $9000 on it. I am ready to just ditch the car for a used one that I don't have to "care" about. I don't want a total junker, but I've seen some pretty decent cars for about $4000. Kelly Blue Book trade in value for my car is $7500. How would this work out? I've been told I should just keep my car since I'm "upside down" on it, and why get a used car for just $2000 less than my new current car? Or, is there a way to get payments lowered, despite not-so-perfect credit? Thanks so much for your help!Should I try calling the bank that I got the loan from and see if I can refinance (explain my situation of course)... not-so-perfect credit...maybe lower interest or even extend maturity date? does that usually work or are banks sticklers??
Voting Question: Price of a used...
I am looking at buying a used Mercedes C class 2005-2007 in Atlanta, GA. Every car I look at is priced almost $4000 above Kelly Blue Book value. Even the dealers have their c classes way over priced according to Kelly Blue Book. I don't want to overpay for a car. Why are all the prices so high? For example a 2006 c230 sport with 24900 miles is $19,000- $21,000 but sellers have them listed at $24,000.Is this a supply and demand issue?

Any suggestions on what I should expect, or any other advice? TahnksAdditional Details:My Truck is all paid off, the Kelly blue book is 11,500 for it, I am trying to concentrate on Hondas listed through dealerships under 10,000. (Around 9,995 mostly) Is this practical or is the dealership looking to make more money?
Resolved Question: What guidelines...
to determine the reimbursement offered under an auto insurance policy for a stolen car?My car was stolen a few days ago and I'm curious what offer I will get if the car is not recovered. I know the Kelly Blue Book value is about $4500 and I don't want to accept anything less. I'm just concerned my insurer will try to low-ball me. So, do they use the same guidelines for determining value?
Resolved Question: Good Car or not?
I'm looking at buying a new used car and wondering if its good. Toyota Camry LE 2002 4dr sedan. Has just over 63,000 miles on it, and they are asking about 10,997 for it, kelly blue book rates it at around 9,000 or so in good to excellent condition. Let me know what you think.
