Resolved Question: When a car is...
I'm in California, I was told they use a sytstem of finding 8-10 cars with your specs (year, mileage, extras, etc..) and then average it out for the value of the car....I know the condition of the vehicle prior to the accident could come into question however this process seems to tilt toward in the insurance companies favor......thoughts?Looking up my car on nadaguides.com it was within 200$ of KellyBB and thanks for the duh answer, really intelligent! and I get that insurance is to protect us, I got hit from someone running a red w/a cop behind him and got completely totaled so i just want fair value for my car, which was an 07 with 8k miles on it.....and in my opinion that value shouldn't differ just because its an ins co.....however Im not naive enough to think that ins co's hose people all the time.....I got a sob story from Mercury since the guy only has 10k of coverage for property damage...I suppose wanting a fair outcome is a stretch in these cases.thanks david c, yes that was helpful.....car was deemed totaled already so now I'm waiting on the settlement...i was told that they find 8-10 cars with similar characteristics and average out the price from those....

Hi, the car is only valued at around $3,000.00 in the kelly blue book, but I have it well taken care of, and with $1000 rims, and more with a great soundsystem(including subwoofers). Thing is, he wants to give me $6,000 for it, that is way too much, aand beside, my car is not for sale. Why are some people willing to pay more money for something if it isnt worth that much in value to begin with. I wont sell only because I love my car, Im not money hungry, and its in great condition
Resolved Question: what are the steps...
Our car pymt is just too high for us right now so we'd like to sell it. We still owe $10,680 on it but kelly blue book value is $8,245 and that's if it were in excellent condition. It's about excellent/good condition...some wear on it. Our loan is thru our bank, if you need that information as well. If anymore info is needed to help me, say so. Otherwise, I would like to know what steps i need to take in order to sell it and how much i should sell it for? Thanks!

I am going to sell a 9-year old Carrier AC/Heat roof unit. It is 3 tons with a 12 SEER. It was used 4 years when I bought it new and has been stored in a covered garage ever since. It seem to be in excellent condition. What is the high and low value of such a piece of equipment if I were to sell it to someone who needs to replace their broken unit? I live in Central California.
Resolved Question: How would it work...
My friend was recently in a wreck and that got me to thinking. I still owe almost 5,000 on my car loan, but my kelly blue book value is only about 6,000 now. If I was in a wreck that wasn't my fault and my car wasn't fixable, and the insurance company payed the 6,000 my car is worth, would I have to use that to pay off my loan, or would the loan transfer to a new car?
Resolved Question: Is this too good...
I'm obsessed with the Acura NSX, but gave up hope on it months ago, for the extremely high prices, even on old models. However, recently looking at autotrader.com, I foundd a couple of private listings that have 2004-5 Acura NSX models for sale at about $20k with extremely low values. In fact, one 2005 model went for $20k, with about 2.5k miles, and the Kelly Blue Book value is at about $65k. So what gives? Is that the going rate for these cars? Or would there be something seriously wrong with these cars?Is it possible to get a NSX with low mileage for around $20k? I don't care about the year.
Resolved Question: Should I get...
I'm considering buying a new Mazda 6. Yesterday I took my 2002 Mustang to the Mazda dealership. My 2002 Mustang only has 49,000 miles on it and works fine; the only thing wrong with it is part of the bumper needs work (this past winter when parking, I slipped on some ice and the car hit a barrier wall). The price quoted to me from Dent Eliminators to fix the bumper was $550.Anyway, the Mazda dealership appraised my 2002 Mustang at $4,500 -- they told me they would have to deduct $1,500 from the trade-in value because of the bumper! I told the guy I was quoted at $550 to have it fixed! I said, "Do you mean to tell me you'd give me $6,000 for this car?" The Kelly Blue Book Value is $5,800 for a car in "good" condition. Even the "fair" condition is $5,085. I left without buying a car.Should I get the bumper fixed? I couldn't believe he told me they would deduct that much!!Here's a picture of the damage. It's not really "embarrassing" per se and no dents...but still there.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/jasonmich/bumper.jpg
Resolved Question: My car was parked...
KBB means Kelly Blue Book value. I am afraid that they will name a ridiculously low value. My car has very low miles. The insurance co. won't fix the car bc the cost of body work is much higher than the value of the auto. Thanks.I do not have collision coverage (in my state, ppl are required to have only liability coverage to pay for damages they might be responsible for; collision is extra). The other driver's insurance has admitted liability already. I had 2 witnesses (they told me about the accident) who saw the other driver hit my parked car.
Resolved Question: Do you think it is...
It's just a regular Chevy Cavalier with a BOTCHED paint job.It was purchased (financed ) in 2006, and as of today the Kelly Blue book value of the car is about 4,300 But the paint is chipping off REALLY bad.
Voting Question: What can I do to...
I stupidly bought a new car 2 years ago (when I already had a new one that my parents just paid off) and now I'm stuck with $271/month payments. I know that's still pretty cheap, but with gas prices and me having to commute 50 miles everyday to work, I don't want to keep trashing my car with miles. I still owe about $9000 on it. I am ready to just ditch the car for a used one that I don't have to "care" about. I don't want a total junker, but I've seen some pretty decent cars for about $4000. Kelly Blue Book trade in value for my car is $7500. How would this work out? I've been told I should just keep my car since I'm "upside down" on it, and why get a used car for just $2000 less than my new current car? Or, is there a way to get payments lowered, despite not-so-perfect credit? Thanks so much for your help!Should I try calling the bank that I got the loan from and see if I can refinance (explain my situation of course)... not-so-perfect credit...maybe lower interest or even extend maturity date? does that usually work or are banks sticklers??

Voting Question: How much would you...
I'm thinking about selling my car it does have 60,000 miles on it but when I look up the value in Kelly Blue Book it doesn't give me the option of Special Edition. So its giving me a lower price on what I'm THINKING I can get out of it. I mean the sticker price on it was $23,000 compared to most $17,000.
Resolved Question: CarMax will buy my...
I am wanting to sell my car, and have seen ads by CarMax for a while now- they promise to buy someone's car even if they don't buy one of theirs (they'll buy mine, even if I don't buy one from their lot). The Kelly Blue Book "private party" value of my car is $7785 (I've considered the mileage, condition of car, etcetera) and the "trade-in" value is around 5k. SO...Will they actually buy my car? And, if so- what can I expect??
Voting Question: Kelly Blue Book values?
Selling a 1994 BMW five series...am interested in how accurate the KBB stated values are in terms of asking price. I am not trading in, but just selling outright. I understand that you enter your year, make, model, mileage, condition, etc., and get an assigned value. However, I was told by one individual that KBB values are "high," and I shouldn't expect to get as much as they predict. Any experienced people out there, please comment. Thanks.

I would like to trade my (paid off )truck for a more economical car. The trade in value of my truck is $18000 according to Kelly Blue Book. Is it easy to try and buy a car that is around the same price? I know that dealerships want to make money, so will they lowball my truck in order to make money?Well I do live in a rural area where trucks are king! I'm averaging about 15mpg now and hope to get a car that gets close to 30mpg. I'll look at edmunds.com value and take both trade in values with me. One time I traded and the car dealer said they used edmunds and then my friend went to the same dealership and they said they used KBB!

The vehicle is automatic, 4-cyl, 1 previous owner, AC, power steering, power windows/doors, Cruise control, AM/FM stereo, Cassette, Single CD, Dual front air bags, power seats, and a sun roof. The dealership is selling the vehicle for $10,500. When I inquired about the vehicle the dealer said the lowest price he could sell me the car was $9,800. However the Kelly Blue Book value is $9,055, and the NADA value is $8,975. Where should I start negotiating the price, and how much should expect to pay for this vehicle? Or what is the most I should offer to pay for it?

I am looking at buying a used Mercedes C class 2005-2007 in Atlanta, GA. Every car I look at is priced almost $4000 above Kelly Blue Book value. Even the dealers have their c classes way over priced according to Kelly Blue Book. I don't want to overpay for a car. Why are all the prices so high? For example a 2006 c230 sport with 24900 miles is $19,000- $21,000 but sellers have them listed at $24,000.Is this a supply and demand issue?

Resolved Question: Is this is good...
I am thinking about purchasing a 1996 subaru legacy sedan AWD from my grandparents and they are charging me $3,000. I personally think that this is ridiculous. They said that it was Kelly Blue Book value, and i checked it and it was, but the price for a car that old is outrages. the car has 100000 miles on it, cassette, power windows and doors, and slight damages to the right door and left front end. automatic, am/fm, pretty standard car. i think that it should be less than this because of the cosmetic defects and damage it has to it and had to be repaired. i mean its not noticable now cuz it has been repaired, but still it had been accident, so im trying to convince my grandparents that ill pay for the insurance of $1000, but they won't budge. If they hear more opionions from others they may let me pay lower for the car?

Resolved Question: Selling My Honda...
I am going to be selling my 1993 Honda Civic Ex. It is black with a moon roof, cd player, power locks and windows, power steering, radio, and a/c. My question is I did a search on kelly blue book and they said the value of my car was 2,200 dollars. I put all the correct info and did not cheat about the car's condition. It has 180,000 miles on it. I just put on new tires last year, it has new left and right drive shafts, and a new alternater as of 6 months ago. The car is mechanically sound and has a clean title the only problem is it has a bit of rust around the wheel wells and the passenger window does not work. Given that in fair condition (Runs well, some rust, and/or astheic problems) the Kelly Blue Book value was $2,200 is $1,800 a fair price to ask for the car?? What kind of car would you expect to get for $1,800?

I am going to buy a Suzuki 650 Savage for 1950. It has 10,000 miles on it. great looking little bike. What price would you pay for this bike in California? I did a Kelly Blue Book and got a trade in value of 1200 a retail value of 1800. So is the price for the bike inflated a little or is it a good price?
Resolved Question: How should I...
My parked car was totalled. The other insurance company declined to fix it stating that the repair cost exceeded the value of the car. The car was in excellent condition and had very low miles. I faxed a copy of the printout from kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) showing the retail value of the car. The insurance company told me that they use the "private party sale" value of the car (which as you might guess is lower than the retail value of the car. What are my options? What do you suggest that I do? I am not using my own insurance co. because I have no collision coverage (which is legal in California-- the state only requires liability coverage). There is no dispute that the other driver was at fault. Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks.

I am planning on purchasing a used vehicle. The dealer is selling it for $9,800. That price is $1000 over Kelly Blue Book and NADA value of the car. I am willing to pay $8500 in cash for the vehicle (including taxes, title, everything). This is small dealership and the vehicle has been on the lot for over 3 weeks. There are also 2 other local dealerships with the same vehicle for sale. Would a good negotiating tacit be to get a bank check for $8500, and tell the dealership that “I would rather avoid the going back and forth between negotiating because I know my maximum price is $8500 and I will give you bank check for that right now? If you do not want to take it, I will go to one of the other dealerships.”Or is there a better way to go about it with still getting the price that I want for the car?

Resolved Question: Help PLEASE!! Auto...
I have a question concerning auto insurance. I recently totaled my vehicle at no fault of my own. Long story short the insurance company is offering me a few thousand more than Kelly Blue Book states the vehicle is actually worth. But what they’re offering is substantially lower than that which is outlined on the Declarations for Policy paper under value. Thing is, I’ve verbally accepted the amount over the phone. Now they’re sending papers to sign over the vehicle. When I phoned the agency, I was informed by the assigned adjuster that he cannot offer more. I don’t really believe him, afterall insurance companies are known for trying to take advantage of people. Here’s the dilema, if they’re offering more than KKB and under the value on the policy. I assume they’re just trying to avoid paying what the real value is. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. I have little knowledge in this, I just turned 22 years old and this was my first car.The policy states Lesser of actual or stated value. My insurance adjuster told me that the amount on the policy is a round about figure, not the actual value. i.e. it was a hit and run. I'm considering a legal professional to handle this matter. Thanks for the advice.

I am not sure to confront the dealer with this or just leave it be and buy the car anyway even though the dealer want more than the Kelly blue book value? I do not know too much about buying used cars simply because I have always bought new cars and this car will just be a secondary car we need.

He had to have known there was a problem for selling it that cheap, the Kelly Blue Book value was about $4500.
