Resolved Question: negotiating salary?

Resolved Question: negotiating salary? This is my first time having to deal with salary negotiation. Salaries were always negotiated by our union at my last job. So, my #1 choice extended a job offer to me this week in a salary range I was hoping for, or at least expecting. I've been reading about job negotiation stuff online, and it makes it seem like all managers low-ball their initial offers. Since it was what I was aiming for, I was pretty happy with it. And, I'm tempted just to take it. I am thrilled to get to work at this place and it will offer a lot of potential job-growth experience. But, am I making a mistake not trying to negotiate for more?I should mention, I am lacking industry experience. I am transitioning to a new career, and while I bring many transferrable skills, I still have a big learning curve ahead of me. I feel like that limits me in what I can use for negotiating purposes.

Open Question: Is it over for the GS... Now that Baron Davis is gone we don't have a Superstar; went to Clippers. I'm pretty sure with "Nelly Ball" we're most likely to fight for the last playoff spot but thats it. But we need someone big, low post presense and another fast paced guy, thats really good. Hopefully they are negotiating with Free Agents right now."We Believe"

Resolved Question: starving kids... You wold think that with all that is available in food stamps, food pantries and otehr resources, that kids in America coldn't possibly go hungry. I found the other day that they are everywhere. Our church was able to negotiate a deal with a grocery store to get their near expired food.I was taking a friend home and she had a huge box of the food. When I got to her house, in a low income part of town, I asked her what to do with the box. She said just leave it on the sidewalk and go inside. She went to the street and yelled "FOOD!!!!!"People (mostly kids) came runnning straight to the box.She told me that kids would come to her house hungry, thirsty and just needin' some love.It felt like a 3rd world country. In a matter of 5 min. the food was gone. What do you think about this? How did I not realize that this was such a problem? And just 10 miles from where I live.

Resolved Question: How to get a lower... I've been having trouble paying for a few months because $5000 got stolen from me, I recently sold some land and I want to pay everything off but I owe quite a lot and I want to be able to pay off all my debts, I heard from an old co-worker that you could negotiate the debt down to a lower payoff ammount, anyone know how this works and what I need to do?

Open Question: Can I still negotiate... I am usually pretty good at negotiating car values and what not but I feel like I didn't come out on top this time. I bought a car yesterday (04' Impala). I did a carfax myself and other research, test drove, liked it, and bought it. I didn't negotiate the price at all, and KNOW I should have at least asked. Now my question is that I am going back to my lender for financing. Is it too late to negotiate? The dealer had me sign a "hold agreement" which is basically paperwork saying if I don't come back with either the car or my own financing that their financind and terms will take effect. Can't I still negotiate? My dealer was saying he could fax a new bill of sale to the lender if I wanted to add-on like leather seating, etc, so can't he fax over a new agreement with a lower price as well?

Resolved Question: Employment... I am an American business grad going to work for my best friend's father’s company in India. It is a retail/ manufacturing company. I will be working sometimes 12-13 hour days and on weekends. When I am not traveling I will be living with her family and have all my living expenses taken care of. I want to commit to at least a year but thought a trial period would be sensible in case of any major issues. I need advice on negotiating a salary and benefits with her. As far as the exchange rate, how do you figure what salary would be appropriate? What about benefits such as medical, dental, stock options etc? I am uninformed on what India employers offer their employees or what is customary. How would you approach the subject matter and what etiquette and customs should I be aware of? I believe an equivalent of $3000 USD a month for the first 3 months is the minimum I would negotiate. Upon that I could be evaluated and my salary reassessed. Does this sound too high, too low or too risky?

Resolved Question: Buying new car.... Hey everyone. My husband and I want to buy a new car that gets around 30 mpg (maybe an aveo or yaris). We currently have a 03 Taurus worth $4000 and owe $2500 on our loan. We have been saving and can afford to pay the loan off completely. Do we pay the bank the 2500 and just trade the car in for 4000 or do we let the dealership handle this? Also, we have enough to buy the car with cash. Is it better that we just pay cash on the new car. Will it help me negotiate a lower price? What is the best way to negotiate a low price. We've never bought a new car before and don't really know the ropes. Also, can you reccommend of any good cars under $20,000 that get around 30 mpg??? Thanks so much for any help!!!It probably would be better to keep the Taurus, but my husband doesn't want to..he's kind of set on getting rid of it...he's tired of the poor gas mileage. He also doesn't want to deal with selling it.

Open Question: too small amt to... Payoff = ~182K, but I'm forced to keep asking-price closer to 188 to payoff loan & meet closing-costs / commissions. I negotiated 2% (my agent) & assuming 3% for buying-agent (unless they will lower to help the deal go through...right).If I lowered asking just a lousy 5 or 7K this place would go in a second, but I don't have the difference for the closing. Think lender might consider a short-sale? The sale would be very close to the payoff amt (just short a few grand)? I am not late but getting damn close. Don't want to rent...just want it goneBackground info below if needed (not trying to advertise):Condo listed since 11/07. New development in very nice area, 2 floors, 7 yrs old, FULL appliance package (new fridge & water-heater), close to the river (NOT a flood-zone). New carpets, floors, neutral paint, eat-in kitchen, etc. There are 2 similar units (NOT vacant, mine is) listed for over 200K.. I get nothing but great feedback.Took Tod's advice & approached agent...waiting to hear-back...will update as I progress!

Voting Question: How to negotiate a... I am currently renting a room in a SF apartment. I've lived here for a year. My roommate (the tenant) has been living here for 10 years and is the only one on the lease. When she moves out at the end of this month, I would like to renew the lease with the landlord. She has been under rent control and I know that I will have to pay the market price for the apartment if I start a new lease. - Is there any limit to how much they can increase the rent? (Under rent control it is $1400 and market value is at least $2100)- Can I negotiate that repairs and improvements be made even though I am living in the space right now? - Would it be wise to take the apt "as-is" and offer to make the repairs and improvements myself (I'm an interior designer) and negotiate a lower rent.- Any other advice or pointers would be helpful! Thanks! My roommate has given 30 days notice already and will be out by the end of June. I have called the landlord twice to discuss the lease and he has been very receptive, but he is waiting for the realtor to give him the market price.

Resolved Question: how to politely... before u jump down my throat hear me out... i was just offered an interview for my dream job where i am currently doing my internship. i have an interview thursday and i was told that in this setting salary is negtionable.. i dont know what is too much or what is to low to aim for as far as my salary goes. i was thinking of askin my supervisor what a good salary is but i dont want to be too nosy.. i dont care how much SHE makes i just dont know what i should ask for..ive never negotioated my salary before :( how can i politely ask her for help with this without coming off as nosy? the job is a long term clinical case manager in a nursing home if that gives u a better ideahow do i negotiate my salary? do they make an offer and i accept or deny it? can they take away the job offer if they feel im askin for too much? im so confused :(

Voting Question: I work as a temp.... I accepted a low consultancy rate because I needed a job. The staffing agency that recruited me is billing me out at more than twice what I'm actually being paid (they obviously didnt give the same discount to the employer). Wouldn't it make sense if I save the employer money by paying me directly (and I would make more myself), if we cut out the middle-man (the agency)?? The temp contract of noncompete/no hiring temps between the agency and employer has already ended - 90 days.

Resolved Question: What should I bid... Ok, The house that I ve been watching for aprox 6 months has just been reduced from 240k to 220k. My wife and I really like it and think we want to place a bid. A bit about the house, its 3400 sq ft, was built in 1870, has a gourmet kitchen , a huge yard, 4 bedrooms and 4 baths. I know the seller is desperate, she is getting or already divorced and the house has been on the market for over a year. I really want to come in with a very low offer like 180k. It does need new windows and some tlc in a few spots here and there. I dont want to insult the seller but I figure that we can always negotiate up and not down. I was thinking about writing a letter to the seller also. In the letter explain what we like about the house and why we feel that the offer we are making is fair. All in all I want to know how I can get this house as cheap as possible. I have a list of questions for the seller already but really want to get an opinion on what I should bid & any other advice will be appreciated.

Resolved Question: Is Bush simply... He takes a low jab at Democrats by calling it appeasement for wanting to talk to Iran. Yet, he negotiates with North Korea, whose leader has been anything but forthcoming? When will the hypocrisy end?To make it clear, I don't care whether we bomb both countries or negotiate with both countries. But to say one thing and do another is just looks stupid.

Resolved Question: I receive a letter... They want to help me reduce my payments but I have to paid them 325.00 and they refinance my house for me should I do it? They contact my current lender and negotiate with them to lower my payments.

Resolved Question: Should I pay off... I do not have any credit cards but have about 12k worth of medical debt, most of which is in collections - I did not have insurance and was not eligible for assistance. Now a new friend has offered to help me either file bankruptcy or pay off my medical debt if I negotiate with them to lower it. What should I do? I thought if I filed bankruptcy I would be able to recover faster. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Open Question: I'm looking to buy a... The retail is approx $7300.The guy at the 1st dealership I went to told me that I wasn't able to put a down payment on the bike and that their APR is 11%!! That sounds insane to me! Then he reconsidered his offer and said that I could put $2500 down payment and that he would 'help me out' by taking $500 off the down payment. That is ridiculous, cause then that $500 will get tacked on to the balance that I am paying interest on! HELP!Does anyone know how much a dealer might pay for a bike the Husky TE 610?So we've decided to finance elsewhere, since EVERYONE was giving me a rate better than 11%, but now WHAT IS THE LOWEST YOU THINK I CAN REASONABLY ASK FOR THIS BIKE?

Resolved Question: can a listing in... For example: Can you say in the listing... " 3 1/2 % to buyers agent if property sells for more than 250K .... 2 1/2% to buyers agent if property sells for 250k or lower. "I am assuming that it can....as everything is negotiable. Would this be something you negotiate with buyers agent after the offer is made.Eg. The buyers agent's client bids 240K ... is this when the seller would tell the buyer .... " okay, i'll accept if you lower your commission to 2.5% .... "or can you simply state that in your mls listing?thanks in advance.

Resolved Question: How to negotiate... I'm going to buy a new or used car this weekend and I'm looking for some tips on how to get the best price, I'm paying it all in cash so I know that will help lower the price, but anything else that I can do to get it even lower?

Resolved Question: I want to Purchase... I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee coming off of a lease next month. The Purchase price is right about $17K... I have thought about purchasing it at the end of the lease... but these vehicles are currently being wholesaled at about $10-$12K. This means if I purchase it at the end of the lease... I am upside down about $5K... which I don't want to be. I have tried to talk to the car dealership about purchasing it... but they said that price is non-negotiable... but it seems a little crazy to me because you would think that Chrysler doesn't want to take this car back. Here is my question... will Chrysler financial offer me a last minute purchase offer for my car... If I want to negotiate with Chrysler Financial how do I do it. Has anyone else had a similar circumstance... and how did you address it?

Open Question: Would you get a public... Here are the details of a public defender:When you’ve been wrongly accused of a certain crime and been prosecuted, you’ll certainly need the legal help and assistance of a public defender especially when you can’t afford to pay for the legal fees and bills covering the consultations, gathering of evidences, and actual proceedings regarding the case. However, getting a public defender is not that easy. You also have to go through a somewhat-rigorous process. The role of a criminal defense attorney is really complex. He can challenge probable cause for arrest, argue in favor of being released on your own recognizance or on very low bail, negotiate plea bargains with prosecutors, discuss the pros and cons of going to trial, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of pleading guilty instead of going to trial. These things are what a public attorney can offer you when you’re in the same circumstances. As what I’ve said, getting the service of a public attorney from a public attor

Voting Question: Could you please... WagesTrouble is that wages have gone from £900 to £1100. Wages have to be paid to employees but try to reduce wages to the lowest possible level, - reduce work hours, staff redundant, don’t employ any more people and don’t give pay rise etc. This could have happened because the company is recruiting too much staff or they are increasing wages.Office expensesOffice expenses have gone up for over 100% (from £30 to £70). Calculate the difference between leasing and buying office equipment. Pay attention to office supply prices. Shop and negotiate rates/plans.Try to investigate the problem and make sure that office equipment is using efficiently. Make sure that your staff doesn’t use it for their personal use. You can install CCTV cameras to monitor your staff and lock part of small office equipment in locked cabinets.SalesThe business can sale more and operate better. Investigate what’s happened with sales and try to increase it – special offers, advertising etc.

Resolved Question: What do I say to a... I have had about 10 people come to see my car and at least 7 of them have asked me what my lowest price is...this seems like a very poor negotiating tactic and every time it has happened, I have countered by asking them to just make an offer. Then they just walk away muttering something about "I have to think about it..." Any advice? Thanks!

Resolved Question: How much should be... I ordered a new 2008 Jeep Patriot and it was finally delivered to the dealer with some damage that occured during transportation of the vechile. They replaced the front fender and now it looks like new. They did have to disclose the damage and it will show up on the Carfax report for now on. I am going to try and negotiate a lower price since the car is no longer worth the original agreed upon price. How much would this type of repair financially impact the resell value of the car? I know nothing about cars, so even an estimate would be helpful.Once a vehicle has been in a wreck or damaged in any way the resell value goes down significantly even if it has been repaired. I know because I just sold a car that had been in a minor wreck and had been repaired.

Resolved Question: Does it hurt your... I am trying to repair my credit myself and was told that if I negotiate with my creditors to settle for a lower payoff that it would make my credit worse? My debts are 2-3 years old, so what happens to my credit if I pay them or if I file bankruptcy?

Voting Question: If a dealership is... There is this used vehicle that I really like, price is 7K, the suggested retail value in KBB is a little over 8K, should you still negotiate the price down a little bit or not since its already 1K lower then the suggested retail value? Now is this normal for dealerships to price a car over 1K lower then suggested retail value, sorry but I am new to this, never bought a car before. Thanks

Resolved Question: What happens to... I don't recall any other Presidential Campaign in which any Candidate has ever made the variety of Campaign Promises that Obama has .What happens to the American People if Obama is elected & he fails to keep most or all of his Grandiose Campaign Promises of Universal Healthcare + Immediate Troop Withdrawal from Iraq + Free College Education + a Better & Healthier Economy + Dealing with our enemies by imposing " deeper sanctions " on them + Lower Gas Prices + More Jobs + The ability to negotiate with terrorists , etc. ??Will there be a public outcry demanding that Obama fulfill his campaign promises and/or asking why Obama was unable to fulfill so many of his campaign promises ?Does the public have a right to expect Obama to keep most or all of his Campaign Promises ?Is it realistic to believe that Obama would be able to keep most or all of his campaign promises or are Obama's campaign promises nothing more than " empty promises " ?zendog - Go Back & read the questionThe question concerns only Obama's campaign promises. Apparently the question was too difficult for you.sikchick - Great Point - After I hear so many of Obama's numerous campaign promises I, too, ask : " How exactly is he going to do that ? "

Voting Question: Rice Exporter... Do you think is it possible to use rice as the tool to bargain or negotiate with the oil ?How many the main rice exporter countries are there in the world ? As I know, there are USA, Thailand, Vietnam, only a few countries. Why don't they unite to bargain with OPEC ? Or drug producer countries united, etc., and get rid of the hedge fund about oil, or dig more oil, anyways to down the oil price. I know that the oil cost is low, but why do we let it to suffer ourselves all around the world ? Do you have the reasonable solutions ?Thank you .

Resolved Question: Is the 2008... This is my first road bike, I'm female, and looking to lose weight and commute. I would like to know if this is a good quality bike. The bike is $549 at the store, but I have a feeling I can haggle for the price. I'd like a different seat if I get it and an odometer/speedometer. What are some techniques to negotiating price in a bike shop and how much lower on the prices will they tend to go?(Thanks!)http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=22065

Resolved Question: Will the McCain... Here is the plan on his web site. http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htmHe will lower your taxes if you pay taxes to help you pay for insurance, and after that you are on your own?He will eliminate your employer provided insurance and any amount they chip into it altogether.I think it will reduce the cost because people with preexisting conditions will not be able to get coverage for a price that does not cover their cost of treatment.Say you have diabetes and it will cost X to treat. Wouldn't an insurance company not give you a policy unless you paid at lease X?Or would they give you one at all? Or would they say everything is because of your diabetes? Is he correct that we as individuals will have more power to negotiate a better price than what our employers could? No it is real clear that employers will not be allowed to deduct any money they contribute to your insurance. To a business that would mean that they have to count anything they pay as income. So there will be no employer insurance.

Resolved Question: When making an... My husband and I are first time home buyers. Or hopefully will be soon! It's a buyer's market, and we want to try for the best deal possible. We're ready to make an offer on a house. But, in today's market, how low should we go? Some sites have said that it is fine to make an offer that is very low, while others suggest making a first offer that is closer to the actual asking price.I want our offer to be seriously considered, but I also want to start low and have room to negotiate. Is it safe to make an offer that is $30,000 lower than the tax value of the house and $40,000 lower than the asking price? Or will they think we aren't serious, and just turn our offer down? The asking price of this house is $50,000 more than any house sold in the area in the past year. However, I can't find any records on houses that have as many bathrooms as this house does, and this house has slightly more property with it than most of the houses sold. The offer that we're considering making is above the average sale price of houses in the area, but less than what the house is probably worth. The owners bought this house from the wife's parents, so they got it for far less than it is probably worth. The owners are buying a house close to their jobs from friends. It sounds like they really need to sell this house soon, but they haven't moved out yet.The house has been on the market for over a year. The price has already been reduced, but not by very much. The offer we want to make is 25% less than the asking price. Is 20% less a better idea?

Voting Question: Is this acceptable? I'm considering buying some new furniture for my new apartment. Nothing much - probably a modest living room set, bedroom set, and maybe a dining table.I know that the furniture store I have in mind will negotiate on price and that their salesmen work on commission.Would it be acceptable at some point in the negotiation to offer to make up some of the salesman's commission in the form of a tip if he can meet me on price?Like saying that there's obviously a minimum price that the store will accept/be happy with, and I know that he works on commission, so if he wants to give me the lower price, I'm willing to tip him the commission that he would be giving up at 50% between the sticker price and the final sale price. All three parties - me, the store, and (most importantly) him - would be winning in this scenario, so let's try to work this out. What do you think the pros/cons are to an approach like this? Would the salesman even be allowed to accept "tips" like this? Thanks!

Resolved Question: how much to pay... hello.. im looking at a bmw x3 in black. loaded. all the features u can think of. advertised price is 26999 ..mileage is 22300. the dealer said they dont negotiate since they advertise the lowest price. how much should i pay?? i really like it. also it jjust came off of a lease.no problems reported on car fax. should i play hardball or just give in?

Resolved Question: How much can I... I am going car shopping tomorrow and would like to look at some used SUVs, since prices are so low right now with gas prices. I found two that I really like one is $17k the other is $16k. There are probably 100 of these exact SUVs within the area and many of them have been sitting on the lots for months. How much do you think I can get them to come down on the price of these two vehicles? I am buying it outright with a check (cash) if that makes any difference.Thanks.

Resolved Question: What is a good... I am looking to purchase a 2000 Toyota Camry LE with 69,000 miles from a dealer. The vehicle is automatic, 4-cyl, 1 previous owner, AC, power steering, power windows/doors, Cruise control, AM/FM stereo, Cassette, Single CD, Dual front air bags, power seats, and a sun roof. The dealership is selling the vehicle for $10,500. When I inquired about the vehicle the dealer said the lowest price he could sell me the car was $9,800. However the Kelly Blue Book value is $9,055, and the NADA value is $8,975. Where should I start negotiating the price, and how much should expect to pay for this vehicle? Or what is the most I should offer to pay for it?

I love accounting and I am really good at it but I can't sit at an office 8 hours a day I could easily do it for 2 or 32. I love working with people and negotiating I like travelling3. I would really like to find something that is a fast growing field that I can have a solid career in and start at a salary of at least 35k a year. Eventually I would like to make around 80k!4. Open Question: How should I negotiate... There must be a way! I work as a CNA in a hospital. I was hired on with little experience, so I understood why I started out at a very low hourly wage.New hires are coming in now, a year later, at 20-30% higher wages. I, of course, am not supposed to know this. We're not supposed to talk about our pay rates. But quite frankly, I can barely afford to work there now. I want to transfer to a facility closer to home, but I have been told my payrate will transfer as well. I also work night shift so I can earn an extra 1.25 an hour...it's really wearing on me...I know there has to be a way to prove I'm worth more--I just don't know how to negotiate this. Can someone out there please give me some insight on how they determine payrates, and how to negotiate for more?My boss asked me about 6 months ago if I would consider working days, and I told her that I would if I could keep my extra 1.25/hour. She turned me down.

Voting Question: Republican Hypocrisy? Why do Republicans whine about not wanting to negotiate with countries like Iran when George Bush embraces despotic regimes like the absolute monarchal Saudi government and military dictators like Pakistan's Pervez Musharef who infringe upon democratic freedoms. When the neocons say they want to "spread democracy throughout the Middle East" what do they intend to do about the Saudi Monarchy?Remember:- Osama bin Laden was a Saudi Prince who founded Al-Qaeda.- 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi's - The Saudi's impose corporal punishment, including amputations of hands and feet for robbery, and lashings for lesser crimes such as "sexual deviance" and drunkenness.- Public beheadings/executions for not obeying Islamic laws for for being gay. - Prohibits religious freedom and missionaries. - No freedom of speech/press. - No right to fair trial and torture.- Women are severely opressed make up only 5% of the workforce in Saudi Arabia, the lowest proportion in the world.

Open Question: Is offering car loan... Hello Everyone,I purchased a car awhile back and I have always wondered if what the "finance manager" did was, well, legal...When negotiating for the interest rate, he offered to drop it by 1,25% if I chose to buy GAP coverage, plus datadot and the tire protection (as a package for 600 bucks).I did the math and it came out even so I took it. But - was that legal? for some reason it just doesn't pass the smell test...overall it was a traumatizing buying experience.. =o/

Resolved Question: Asking price? I'm looking at buying a used 2007 Chevy Malibu. It is anAutomatic 4-spd, 4 cyl 2.2 L and 34,000 miles. It is in pretty good condition, with only a few minor interior stains. Body is well. They are asking $12,200.00 for it. The thing is, it was part of a rental fleet for the entire mileage. If I was to negotiate price, about how far would I be able to lower the price? With it having a rental history, will I be able to lower the price considerably?

Open Question: How do I negotiate... I am trying to pay off all of my credit cards. I have gotten all of the balances paid down but now I want to negotiate a lower interest rate so I don' t pay tons of interest each time I use it. I have read some things on how to do it such as calling your cc company armed with your payment history etc. But I would like to know what exactly to say to not get pushed around and get the result I'm looking for... a lower rate.

Voting Question: can anyone please... Here's the deal: A person (the one selling the house) is asking me to have atleast 1K deposit to be left with the Title company to begin the title search. I will then get a copy of the contract that the "realtor" have with the seller along with a wholesale agreement contract because that is what the realtor will be doing, wholesaling it to me. The buyer, which is me, is required to pay all closing, however the realtor will split the closing and all other fees or the realtor and I can negotiate a lower offer if I pay all closing, the choice is up to me. Any more advice/tricks?

Voting Question: Does a Realtor HELP... I will be relocating to a new city within the next 2 months. We have decided 2 buy a spec home in a new fast growing community. Prior 2 having my realtor I had already visited & done some research of my own in this area, now that my realtor (which has gone out home searching for me only twice- pre owned homes only) wants 2 be part of the process& continuously warns me not 2 visit them without her & reminds my husband and I how much we need her! As soon as she knows a builders has contacted me she intervenes & I lose all connection. When the builders talk a price she tells me they are at their rock bottom price& cannot go any lower.. Needless 2 say after I contacted them directly they offered an additional $2000 towards closing cost! I am afraid she will not work to get me the best deal possible & she intimidates the builders &they will no longer want 2 negotiate with me. WHATS HER COMMISSION PRICE& IF I CUT CONNECTION WITH HER WILL THE BUILDER BE MORE WILLING TO NEGOTIATE WIH ME?

Resolved Question: Got a job offer... During interview, I briefly mentioned ( whilst under pressure ) a figure that I am looking for and I gave them a figure, which is $5,000 / month. They have now came back with an offer of 4,500. I was really looking for $5000 to $5,500. It is a great company and I am transferring within the company from one continent to another. As such, I would like to go back and re-negotiate. Can someone advise me on how to do that, what to say and what do I have to say in the email, but not to the point of being greedy. Any ideas will be very much appreciated. Many thanks.
